  • Q1

According to Arlington County’s FY2023 Budget, 39 percent of the County's budget is allocated to APS, which represents 46.6 percent of ongoing local tax revenues. As the County Board, what do you believe is your role with regards to evaluating whether APS is spending that money wisely?

  • Q2

Under Virginia law, the County Board has the authority to provide appropriations to the School Board subject to major expenditure classifications (e.g., instruction, pupil transportation, operation and maintenance, contingency reserves, etc.) with which the School Board must comply. Would you be willing to more clearly delineate how APS should use additional funds as allowed under Virginia law?

  • Q3

In recent years, the County has greatly increased density in certain areas and our South Arlington schools have more overcrowding than our North Arlington schools, a trend that APS projects to increase over the next decade. How do you think school capacity should be factored into the County’s review process for new development projects?

  • Q4

In addition to a learning crisis, Arlington's youth are also facing an historic mental health crisis following the pandemic. What do you think the County Board can do to better help address both of these crises in the community?

  • Q5

How would you support working families whose children are in public school during APS days off and over extended school breaks? Further, will you ensure there are accessible activities and programs specifically for teens? If so, how?
